The Calling

The Calling

By Jason Zapata

This is the type of place where a conscience
Does more harm than good.
This is the type of place where noble beings
Are misunderstood.

Irregardless of good intent or honorable deed
You’re defamed and slandered.
Judged wanting by witch hunters and hypocrites,
Defined by double standard.

Oh you stubborn fool.

This is no grand crusade or rite of passage
You must see through.
Listen to reason and leave this place before
It finally kills you.

Struggle to keep composed as you watch another
Kindred spirit depart.
Know you’ll be left with those who take delight
In the breaking of your heart.

Keeping company with the damned deafened you
To your true calling.
If not – why after all these years of pain and loss
Are you still stalling?

Oh you stubborn fool.

This is no grand crusade or rite of passage
You must see through.
Listen to reason and leave this place before
It finally kills you.
