The victors of this conflict determined what was true
Defeated I was forced to endure this detriment
Hear the many fallacies my enemies would construe
And be judged not by truth but popular sentiment

 

Swiftly vilified by my supposed transgressions
Nothing remained sacred and everything became surreal
Familiar faces adopted disingenuous expressions
And served as visible reminders of this ordeal

I’ve grown so weary of giving fake apologies
Labeled a monster for having fought for my belief
That they were proponents of false ideologies
I tell myself I would do anything to end this grief

But the bitterness of having fought for a lost cause
Has become the hateful consequence that gives me pause
